The Two Hundredth and Seventy Seventh Life-Part Five
There wasn’t anything wrong with me, I didn’t think. But now, staring down at my glowing body, I gasped softly. Golden light was streaming everywhere, like a candle had suddenly gone nuclear. Basil was staring at me, not scared, not crying, just silently accepting that I had become some sort of ethereal being.
I started to float, rising off the bed and watching myself in the mirror quite calmly as my brown eyes flicked and swirled like pools of thinned out mud, but slowly began to change silver, starkly contrasting the golden glow of the rest of my body. I felt a strange tingling sensation and looked down at my wrist, where I was dissolving into orange tiles, each one of them looking quite solid, actually. It was a surprise, and I touched one, feeling the plexiglass that it appeared to be. Why was I dissolving into plexiglass? I frowned, pulling one close to my head, the tangerine sheen reflecting my emotionless face. It burst into black stars, coating my face and by entire body, changing colors frantically as the surface of time seemed to be split fully in half. I wasn’t sure why it was cut in half, but it just seemed as if it was ripping apart at the scenes of my life. I was suddenly overwhelmed by the rush of feelings that suddenly flooded my blank mind, sending all of the papers that were my knowledge around, combining them to create solutions that made more problems. I didn’t understand them at first, but another couple of seconds or so and I understood them all, understood everything, letting the world all breathe as one for the first time in… Not that long. I had been here before, hadn’t I? Somewhere, right here… Somewhere on Earth! I had been here hundreds of times! Different lives! Of course!
And with that thought, I exploded into light.
